In Its 6th Year, American Grown Month Celebrates Contributions of Flower & Foliage Farmers

July marked the annual celebration of American Grown Flowers and Foliage Month (AGFM)! Now in its sixth year, the month celebrates the contributions of cut flower and foliage farmers, their families, and their teams that work hard to bring high-quality, domestically grown products to consumers and to recognize the economic and cultural impacts provided to communities and country, alike.

Here at Certified American Grown, we are proud to sponsor a month like this dedicated to the promotion and advocacy of domestic flower and foliage growers. From continuing to be recognized by Congress as a month-long celebration of U.S. production (H. Res. 1213 – Carbajal) to seeing retailers around the country celebrating with special promotions and activities, it’s clear that AGFM is continuing to gain traction each year. Here are just a few highlights we saw.

Florists’ Review magazine published a 10-page spread in their American Grown-focused issue including the American Grown Edition of the Best in Bloom Contest

The 2022 FTD America’s Cup floral design competition at the AIFD Roots Symposium in Las Vegas featured 2 American Grown surprise packages. Winner Jenny Thomasson from Jenny T Floristry will move on to represent the United States in Interflora’s World Cup in England next year. There were so many talented designers that competed this year, including runner up Jenna Naylor Temple of Bloom with Jenna. Take a look at what they were able to create with beautiful American grown flowers and foliage donated from farms across the country including: Alaska Perfect Peony (Alaska), Albin Hagstrom & Son (Florida), Camflor (California), Fern Trust (Florida), Green Valley Floral (California), Mellano & Company (California), Ocean Breeze Farms (California), Resendiz Brothers (California), and Sun Valley Floral Farm (California). Many farms throughout the country also participated by hosting special events and workshops and selling unique and celebratory bouquets. July saw the Homer Peony Celebration in Alaska for the duration of the month and Harmony Harvest Farm in Virginia hosted a Farm Day, DIY floral workshops and more!

As always, consumers were encouraged to support homegrown farms by looking for the Certified American Grown seal when purchasing flowers and foliage for their homes, offices, events or celebrations not just during the month of July, but all year long!

Camron King, CEO and Ambassador for Certified American Grown said: “The annual celebration of American Grown Flower and Foliage Month is an important component to celebrating America’s month, the entire month of July. This is a special month where flower and foliage farms in every state in the U.S. are in bloom and production and there is no better way to celebrate than to purchase local, American grown products from our farms, by asking your local florist or retail store to carry and support American grown, or to give the gift of U.S. flowers to friends and family. Many do not realize but, unfortunately, many of the flowers and arrangements sold in grocery stores and through florists are imported and this is a month to shine the light on the importance of supporting homegrown flowers, foliage, families and communities.”

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us! We loved seeing American Grown Flowers and Foliage in the spotlight during July, and we hope to see the energy and enthusiasm continue to grow all year long!
