SACRAMENTO, Calif. — July 30, 2026 — America’s flower and foliage industry received bipartisan recognition this week, as the U.S. House and Senate passed resolutions celebrating its role in supporting family farms, creating jobs, and bringing fresh, American-grown flowers to homes and celebrations nationwide.
Introduced as H. Res. 1459 in the House and S. Res. 822 in the Senate, the resolutions designate July as American Grown Flower & Foliage Month. The Senate approved its resolution by unanimous consent on July 30.
American Grown Flowers, the national trade association for the U.S. cut flower and foliage industry, worked with congressional leaders to advance the resolutions as part of its ongoing effort to strengthen domestic flower production and elevate the industry’s voice in Washington.
“America’s flower and foliage industry is a vital part of U.S. agriculture and the communities it serves,” said Felicia Alvarez, President & CEO of American Grown Flowers. “These resolutions recognize the people and businesses behind every American-grown flower and help more Americans understand why it’s worth choosing flowers grown right here at home. We’re grateful to our congressional champions for standing behind our industry.”
The House resolution was introduced by Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24), co-chair of the Congressional Cut Flower Caucus, and cosponsored by fellow caucus co-chairs Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA-04), Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME-01), Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19), and Rep. Jeff Hurd (R-CO-03). The Senate resolution was led by Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK), cosponsored by Sens. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Andy Kim (D-NJ), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Cory Booker (D-NJ).
“California produces nearly three quarters of all American-grown cut flowers, and I’ve seen firsthand the vital role these farms play in supporting local jobs, small businesses, and the long-term strength of our agricultural sector,” said Rep. Carbajal.
“California is proud to lead the nation in flower production, thanks to the hardworking growers who cultivate some of the world’s highest-quality blooms right here in our state,” said Sen. Padilla. “I’m proud to lead this resolution honoring their contributions and encouraging more Americans to support flowers grown here at home.”
The resolutions build on growing bipartisan support for domestic flowers, including the Don Young American Grown Act, which would require cut flowers and greens displayed at the White House, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense to be American-grown.

But the best thing people can do is buy more flowers and be sure to ask where their flowers come from.
