At the heart of this gastronomic adventure is Chef Christine Ferris, the culinary visionary behind Farmhouse Deli in Douglas, Michigan. Chef Christine’s journey began in 2013 when she founded the deli, fulfilling a dream nurtured over decades of cooking on the West Coast, in Chicago, and throughout Michigan. Her passion for fresh, locally sourced ingredients led her to create a space that quickly became a beloved destination for both locals and travelers.

Farmhouse Deli offers more than just food; it’s an experience steeped in the philosophy of simple, flavorful cooking that lets the ingredients shine. With a menu featuring handmade sandwiches, a deli case filled with salads and meats, and a selection of baked goods crafted with farm-fresh eggs and real butter, the deli has grown far beyond its humble beginnings. It now includes an organic coffee bar, a juice bar, and a variety of vegan and gluten-free options.

For the Field to Vase Dinner, Chef Christine has curated a menu that highlights the best of Michigan’s seasonal produce. Her dishes will embody her commitment to freshness and simplicity, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to speak for themselves. Expect to indulge in a feast that not only satisfies the palate but also reflects the spirit of the local farming community.

No farm-to-table dinner would be complete without the perfect wine pairing, and this event promises an exceptional selection, thanks to the Michigan Wine Collaborative. Three esteemed wineries—Modales, Domaine Berrien, and MAWBY—will showcase the diversity and excellence of Michigan’s wine industry.

Modales Winery, located in the Fennville AVA, is known for its dedication to sustainable and regenerative agriculture. Each glass of Modales wine reflects their deep connection to the land and the people who cultivate it. Domaine Berrien Cellars, hailing from the Lake Michigan Shore AVA, brings a taste of the Rhone Valley to the Midwest with its focus on Rhone varietals like Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne. Their expertise in these varieties adds a unique dimension to Michigan’s wine scene.

Completing the trio is MAWBY, the sparkling wine authority from the Leelanau Peninsula AVA. With a history dating back to 1973, MAWBY has been instrumental in making Michigan sparkle, both in the literal and figurative sense. Their commitment to traditional production techniques and sustainable farming practices ensures that each bottle is a testament to the region’s winemaking prowess.

These three wineries will provide an array of wines, each carefully chosen to complement the dishes prepared by Chef Christine. The evening will offer a sensory journey through Michigan’s terroir, from the vineyards to the dining table, in perfect harmony with the season’s blooms.
